Fern spores generally are dull brown of at their best, uniform yellow. Colour patterns I have never seen before. Pityrogramma dealbata has them:

Quite beautiful! They remind me of pastries in the windows of the bake shops in Barcelona. Of course when your a diabetic, everything reminds you of being a pastry or something your not supposed to be eating.

Anaglyph of a closely related species (Pityrogramma calomelanos).

Re: possibly the most beautiful fern spores
Pityrogramma originates from Central and South America, but has spread all over the world's tropics. Even here they arrive now and then, which is why the phyto-sanitary service asked me to identify them. I don't recall having seen them in Ecuador per se, but they must have been there, especially in semi-urban and rural areas.
Interestingly, they not only have bicolorous spores, but neither the plants self are green-only. The undersides of the leaves are yellow or white from brightly coloured exudates. Very few fern genera have this, so recognition in the field is easy.

Oh! That's a weed in my yard! It's one of the first plants I brush against when I walk out my door.

I love those, also nicely presented. Its interesting how similar the pattern is from one to the next.
