We live in, what is essentially, a glass house. Windows everywhere. We frequently find dead birds that have smashed into the windows. Here are two juvenile American Robins Turdus migratorius, that impacted our windows.
Before we buried the carcasses I pulled a few feathers from the breast and belly - the areas that will be orange in the mature adult.
In these feathers were filaments that appear to carry the pigmentation of these feathers.
