Water bubble on rust

Post by Didier_Micro »

I didn't expect to see so much color in a simple drop of water on rust.

Nice, they look like aerial shots of small islands.

This is very nice!

The intensity of the colors surprises me too.

The spatial layout and the spectral sequence of colors suggest thin film interference.

But then to get such intense colors implies that the magnitude of the front and back surface reflections must be very well matched. I would not have expected that!

What exactly is this a piece of? How did the water get there?

Hi,

" What exactly is this a piece of? How did the water get there? "

I just put water on a piece of rusty iron. For the shot, a set of episcopic and oblique lighting.
(I will try to do it again).

I will be interested to know if it's repeatable.

I tried just now with a couple of different rusty surfaces, using around-the-lens illumination with and without diffusers, and all I saw looked like wet rust.

Hi,

I did new I made new tests.

Take a piece of rusty iron, wash it, put a drop of water or saliva on it, wait two minutes, illuminate in polarized light by episcopy and with a little oblique light (to bring out the brown color of the rust).

Didier
