Hi Dominique,

Excellent photos as usual - thank you!

"hibernica" means "from Ireland", but I don't know why it has this name. According to "An Atlas of British Diatoms" the authorities for this name are :

Cymatopleura elliptica var. hibernica (W.Smith) Van Heurck

Hi Dominique,

Back again.

Now I know why it is "hibernica". The type specimen was collected by the Belfast naturalist, George Dickie, from Lough Neagh in Northern Ireland. Lough Neagh is the largest lake in Ireland (and in the British Isles).
