Phacus longicauda

Post by Olympusman »

Phacus longicauda. I have been keeping this sample alive on my windowsill for about two weeks, refreshing the water daily with tap water. This has reduced the incidence of Oscillatoria but has also provided me with dying and dead euglenoids. The corpses of the euglenoids are the pellicles.

I remember the first time that I saw one of these things. It was bright green with a red eyespot. Reminded me of an onion and a martini for some odd reason. :-k I found it in a sample taken from a high mountain wetland, of which are becoming few and far between. :? Nice images :)
