Stacked
Hi Bernhard, tnx for the ID.
I am glad you like the image Ken, It is a stack but I believe most of the attributes of the image rest on the illumination. I use a crescent moon filter, if you work on finding a balance on the level of contrast between the highlight, the shadow and the background you can render great results.
DIC is overrated!

Well I would have to say that I would really like to have the capabilites of DIC, I envy those who do but it is far too expensive for me as to what I want to do as an amateur and so I am inclined to agree with you. Though I fear to get into the technical aspects of DIC, I think oblique illumination reveals almost but not quite as similar results, as does DIC. So if you can't afford to have it on your scope a good darkfield stop moved slightly off center of the condenser or a cresent moon filter is just as good, as evidenced by your photograph and much easier on ones budget too.DIC is overrated!

DIC upgrade
I agree Completely Ken.
DIC can be great especially on higher magnifications but it is very expensive.
However, I will keep looking on e-bay for a DIC setup that fits me.
