I agree, diatoms can be very hard to photograph without stacking of somekind. I seldom see a great diversity of them here where I am at but then again it maybe that I am just not looking and looking the right places. A really nice image here Dominique, the impression that the diatom is very three dimensional, is well expressed in your work.
