I always particularly appreciate Anne's diatom images, and this set is certainly no exception. I especially like the presentation in the last two images, which appear to be the same diatom imaged at different focal planes in a single session, with the results then "collaged" into a single frame in post? If I have it correct, bravo for an innovative and lovely way to show this confounding type of valve morphology.

A joy to behold indeed!

EDIT: On second look, perhaps I have it wrong. Still, I stand by my assertion that it's a lovely presentation of a confounding morphology. So, how did you manage those very

images?

Kurt: Thank you for your kind comments.

I am using DIC for my diatom images, not the scientific way to photograph diatoms, but for me the way to show the best details.
For the the two Mastogloias where you can see them in two different levels I had the good luck to have them on both sides in the slide, to take a look inside and from outside. Inside you can see the "septen", and otuside the pores.
All images are stacks, done with the 100x lense with oil.
Very important is a good slide and the correct mountant.
Here it is a slide from Michel Haak, mountant is Pleurax.

Your language is as clear as your images.

I have quite a few slides prepared by Michel Haak, and know well how crisp and clean they can be. I also use Pleurax from him for my own slides.
