These images and sample are very nice, although, used to study Petrography, in most cases I find more useful for mineral identification and -personal taste- more beautiful to see thin sections with cross pol without retarders or when needed with a 1/4 wave plat that doesn't alter so much the colors

Thanks, I am not trained in using a Petrographic type microscope or Petrography for that matter but have had an interest in Astronomy for many Moons. Over those years I have collected many meteorite thin sections and meteorites, hoping to buy a microscope some day and having the time to use it. Well that day finally arrived about a year and a half ago. I have been reading (and trying to comprehend) a Guide to Thin Section Microscopy and asking questions of others. I suppose I would be classified as a pre-apprentice in Petrography (if that) and Microscopy. I have photographed a few thin section without a full wave retarder too.
