Sample brought back from Scotland by my daughter
I think this is a Geleia sp., a salt water ciliate. It appears even more stretchy than Lachrymaria

It is not Geleia, which has a wide peristome, on one side of the cell, near the front....rather like a very elongated Loxodes (with which it shares a family). This is a trachelocercid (Trachelocerca, Tracheloraphis, etc.) Like Geleia, they are marine interstitial (sand-dwelling) ciliates, with a ribbonlike body form, but the cell mouth is apical, in that headlike bulge at the end of the "neck."
