Unknown marine subject. Ideas?

Post by Charles Krebs »

I found these after clearing and cleaning some alga and diatoms off of a small rock. They are obviously "something" but I have no idea. Any thoughts?

They measure about 425 microns long by about 208 microns wide.

Uhhhh.... no, not really
I measured the pixel dimensions from the web sized image rather than the full size image. They are about 425 x 206 microns. (I've corrected the original post. I thought that diatom looked awfully small! :) )

Hi
Maybe algae
Maybe antheridium reproductive structure of Chara (or similar):
"Male reproductive structures, known as antheridia, are located on the male gametophytic shoots. An antheridium is sac-like and contains sperm, that may fertilize a female archegonium" (see this webpage)

(But Chara is mostly freshwater algae... )

I was cleaning off my tabletop an found a small container of water where I had placed a few of these. It seems they are seeds of some type...

Hi Charles.
You rule out that those are antheridium?
