CCD chip images

Post by mtuell »

I managed to borrow a bare color CCD chip, and got a few images.

This first one is a focus stack with 100x M Plan. The pixels are 15 microns square, comprised of 3 x 5 micron color pixels. The bright stripe is a gold trace, I believe. This is near the edge of the sensor, and you see part of the readout channels.

Next is an attempt at stitching with 60x M Plan DIC. You can see a big chip out of the corner, but more interestingly, a flake that you can see the bare silicon. This is the corner with the most interesting electronics for readout. Also visible is a connection hole, which I think has a wire bonded in it which is clipped off about 7 microns above the surface. The hole is about 82 microns in diameter.

And finally, the one I promised yesterday, is a reflected light DIC movie with 18 frames, each one has the input polarizer rotated about 10 degrees, so it makes a continuous loop. The .gif file is about 10 MB and can be seen here : https://lavinia.as.arizona.edu/~mtuell/ ... -polar.gif. Below is a small preview of frame 1.

Enjoy!
