Water bug

It looks like a nymph stage of some kind of flying insect.

The adult stage may be able to fly but is apparently well adapted to swimming. I am not familiar with the Australian fresh water fauna. But this youngster has great similarities with nymph stages of European water bugs from the family Corixidae.
