Difflugia

Post by Ecki »

Although this may look like an agglutinated chunk of debris, these are shells of Difflugia amoebae. As determining the species in this genus is harder than understanding relativity theory, I will not even try. I am always amazed how massive and tank-like these shells appear in the electron microscope.

More Diffluginas can be found here: http://penard.de/Amoebozoa/Tubulinea/Difflugina/

As always, these images are a team effort of Steffen and myself.

Best regards,
Ecke

Wonderful. As usual.
Huge difference from what we observe in brightfield or DIC!!
How will be these organisms really?!

Difflugia tests

Post by Olympusman »

Amazing. What is remarkable about testate amoebae is that for a creature that does not have a brain, their DNA is capable of gluing together these structures and that the design is specific to the species.

Ecki,

This electron microscope is because of your work, or you are so into microscopy that you have one on your desk?
