Excellent!
Yes, Epistylis (lipped zooid, no myoneme in stalk).

It Came from the Pond (Blog): http://www.itcamefromthepond.com/
Dear zzffnn, my microscope is a good old Zeiss Jena LG. The Abbe condenser is original. The UGF is placed into the filter tray as the arrow shows. I used the 20x objective for this photo. The UGF effect not works truely with the 40x objective, the light is weak or the light cone is too high?zzffnn wrote:Very nice photo!
What microscope magnification did you use for that photo? And were you using a conventional Abbé 1.25 condenser in its original form?
I remember a member who uses a DIY condenser/filter for special effects, though that may not be you. I know you use UGF sometimes.
Tips are welcome.
My early homemade condenser:

(This was not a true microscope, just a 16x objective mounted directly on a Fuji HS30 ultrazoom's objective.)

fonakta,
For UGF to work well at objectives >= 40x, you would want to reduce light leaking from the oblique part to minimal. Please peek into objective back lens (by removing eyepiece) and confirm that black parts are completely black (please refer to photo #5 of this thread for what I meant by completely black: http://www.photomacrography.net/forum/v ... hp?t=15142)
You have read my thread about optimzing UGF:
http://www.photomacrography.net/forum/v ... ht=#176419
There you can see I showed UGF with a LOMO KOH-3 Abbe condenser. That LOMO condenser is highly similar to your Zeiss Jena condenser (LOMO is a copy of Zeiss Jena, many LOMO parts fit on Zeiss Jena directly).
With my LOMO condenser and 40x objective, I had to modified the condenser by removing its filter tray and swing-in bottom lens. Without modification, my UGF could not block light effectively for optimal contrast. Please see photos #5 and #6 of my thread cited above. I put mounting putty under the modified condenser and stick UGF there.
