Bee mouthparts - testing my new camera

Post by stevesteve »

Hi,

Here is a photo of a bee tongue (the glossa and spoon-shaped flabellum).
Image
Taken with my new (to me!) Canon 1000D using Live View. It was actually just sat on a photo tube using the 20x on my old Lomo microscope. 6x images stacked as the hairs are significantly 3D.
Looking forward to my new kit arriving soon.

Cheers
Steve

This is the new machine

It has 5 Plan objectives and seems very bright and clear.

I'm waiting for a suitable relay lens (c mount) and adapter for the Canon EOS bayonet.

Hi Steve,
I'm waiting for a suitable relay lens (c mount) and adapter for the Canon EOS bayonet.
Why C mount?
C is usually intended for small sensor cameras and the parfocal distance usually is too short for a DSLR and its optics FL too short also, Is that adapter a simple empty tube or has it a lens?
Could you post a link to that adapter?

Hi Pau,

It has infinity objectives and a top port like this:

I think it is exactly 40mm diameter if measured with the vernier.

Hi All,

Thanks to Pau (on a different thread) and particularly Icthy and Haris on this one... it works!

I set it up as you described with a set of old M42 bellows (just balanced on the mic and the Canon just sat on top of it).

Actually in this configuration it is slightly too long to be parfocal with the eyepieces but it proves that it works!

I am now looking at a range of plastic/aluminium tubes to make a custom adapter (and wishing the motor on my lathe was working!).

Thanks for your help! First photos to be in a new thread in the photos section.
Cheers,
Steve
