Amphileptus?

Post by Tardigrade37 »

Found this big guy in a marine sample (possibly brackish). It was very fast and a challenge to document. When fully extended, it is around 180um long. Any thoughts as to an ID? EDIT: I think this may be Amphileptus because of the large number of peritrichs also found in this sample.

63x/1.2 W C-apo DIC; no flash.

Here's a few additional images of this guy. Taken with a 40x/1.3 EC Plan-Neofluar Ph3 lens.

Great images! 8) The view of the trichocysts is particularly good.

The ciliation suggests Litonotus, rather than Amphileptus.
