Sea Urchin Egg

Post by Tom Jones »

This is a fertilized, Purple Sea Urchin egg from a hands-on marine biology workshop today at Santa Monica City College for the Microscopy Society of Southern California. Sperm and egg production were induced by injecting 0.5M KCl into the urchin body. Ed Tarvyd gave a wonderful presentation.

I left my real camera at home , so the photo was taken using the afocal method with my Samsung Galaxy 5 cellphone camera, handheld.

Olympus BH-2, DPlan 20x, WHK10/20L eyepiece. Cropped, color balanced (sort of...), and minor sharpening in Lightroom.
