Probably Tetmemena eating a ciliated

Post by carlos.uruguay »

In this video we observe a near Stylonychia relative.
It belongs to the Oxytrichidae family
It is probably of Tetmemena gender.
Measures about 130um (0.13mm) long.
It lives in a freshwater bottle with Elodea algae.
At the end of the video we observe how it eats a small ciliated.
I am grateful to Bruce Taylor

the unvaluable help for the identification of this organism.
Free network sound effects.
Polarized oblique light.
Phase objectives 20X and 40X.

Hi Carlos,

I am always impressed with videos that show the organism feeding as I know that it is often difficult to catch this behavior. Thanks for sharing.

Regards,
Bill
