My favorite diatom shape. I think it is the most graceful looking diatom. I used to think it was not mobile, but I think I've seen some of them moving in my samples. Thanks for sharing!

Are you sure of your ID... it looks like gyrosigma...
Was it in fresh or sea water ?

My sample was from fresh water. When I Googled Pleurosigma I found many variations. My initial reference was from "Fresh-Water Biology" 1918 by Henry Baldwin Ward

Hi,
it has very little there pleurosigma in freshwater
I bet it'a a Gyrosigma accuminatum or G attenuatum

look at the raphee between the two genus
