Finally, www.Penard.de is online

Post by Ecki »

I am happy and proud to announce that a new website about amoebae and heliozoans is finally online. The site is a "joint venture" between my friend Steffen and myself.

Of course it is in English and you will find many stunning light- as well es electron microscopic images.

I hope you enjoy www.Penard.de. I would appreciate your feedback.

Thanks and regards,
Ecki

Absolutely beautiful! I'll add a link to it on my site.

Do you see Pompholyxophrys often? It would be nice to have it sequenced, to see whether it might be a cercozoan, as Cavalier-Smith believes: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22317961

So far nobody has figured out how to keep Pompholyxophrys in culture. There is a paper by Patterson who made TEM images of Pompholyxophrys. His findings point to a relationship close to nucleariids.

We know the paper of CS but we are not convinced. There is also a paper (search for Microhelida) that places the Centrohelida in Hacrobia but we have chosen to ignore that also.

The taxonomy is rapidly evolving and we will change the position of genera when more supporting research appears.

Thanks all for your kind comments. There is much more to come as we have just started to "mine" our archives.

Best

excellent
I love Eugène Penard 's books
"étude sur les infusoires d'eau douce" was my bed book as a teenager

I have some plans about a similar site for ciliates, anyone interested ? Bruce ? ... ?
Zeiss Axiophot, transmitted and Fluorescence
BK5000, Transmitted and CP
Wild M20

I'm very interested. :) Nothing like that exists for ciliates, yet, and it is needed. I have a domain set aside for such a project -- infusoria.org -- but haven't begun to seriously build a site there (though I've tested dozens of wordpress portfolio templates). Perhaps a group effort would be better!

I used Rapidweaver for penard.de. I created some templates for the different page types (overview, details etc).

A site on ciliates should be called Kahl.com :D

I have made a couple of corrections, some images were not showing correctly. Thank you all for your nice comments.

Best regards
