Nice capture. Some chemicals that don't yield spectacular colors when cross-polarized can yield some dramatic dark moods. I've found areas on a melt slide of Resorcinol with somber grays where other areas have spectacular colors.

Very cool! Very artistic! Somehow reminds me of carbon steel under stress...but at the same time soothing..could be the nice dark gray tone overall.
