Lacrymaria olor the giraffe in someone else's home

Post by carlos.uruguay »

In this curious video we observed several ciliate Lacrymaria olor.
We have found it in a bottle with fresh water and algae.
Lacrymaria olor is similar to a bottle of very long neck.
We not see their bodies because these ciliates sometimes they hide in empty houses of other inhabitants of the drop of water.
That is what we see in this video.
Look how much they can stretch its 'necks' to search for food!!
Phase Contrast, polarized light oblique.

Very interesting. I've seen lacrimaria before, but never this variety. That's one seriously long neck!

How did you do the zoom in/out sequence in your video? Was it done in post production, or do you have zoom on the camera/scope?

Thank you Francisco and Beatsy by watching the video and for your comments
Beatsy: the camera is a canon 600 d and it has the option of using zoom (from 3X to 10X) during filming. After filming, in post production, I only cut and put the texts and the sound. I never modify the video.
