Gel from the fountain

Draining a small outdoor fountain, I saved some of the water to examine, but then forgot about it for several days. When I got back to it, the water had become a highly viscous clear gelatinoid substance. The few organisms remaining are shown in the second picture. What do I have here?

Could this be a mucopolysaccharide elaborated by the organism?

Definitely fungi. The dark clusters are spores.
