I don't distinguish well the image
It has a 'trunk' as Anthophysa?

Colonial flagellate for Id

Post by jc maccagno »

Hello Carlos

This organism was free swimming and looked more like Synura except for the lack of color .

Thanks for your interest and the link

Hi John.
Anthophysa is similar to Synura, but without color
Many times the colony detaches and rotates freely.
The members of the colony have 2 flagella (one shorter than the other)
and sometimes also emerge and swim freely

Looks to me like a colony of choanoflagellates...the peri-flagellar collars are visible on some of these little guys.

If so, they are opisthokonts, more closely related to you and me than they are to either Synura or Anthophysa, which are both stramenopiles (closer to Diatoms, Mallomonas, etc)! Our cousins, the sponges, have collared cells, too. :)

Consider genus Sphaeroeca.
