A useful text for identifying ciliates

Post by Bruce Taylor »

A couple of years ago, I scanned my old copy of Alfred Kahl's 4-volume revision of the ciliates. I've posted a copy of the .pdf on my website, www.itcamefromthepond.com , under "Sites and Sources."

The book has been available online for a number of years, at the protist information server, but the interface there is awkward. If you would find it useful to have your own searchable copy, please help yourself.

Note that Kahl's taxonomy is out of date. However, once you have his name for an organism, it's usually quite easy to check for synonymy on Catalogue of Life ( http://www.catalogueoflife.org/ ) or NIES ( http://www.nies.go.jp/chiiki1/protoz/ ).

Merry Christmas, all!

Hi Bruce,

I downloaded Vol 1 twice and I get a "corrupted file" error when I try to open it. :( The others all worked fine. Could you check it? Thanks. And thanks for the files!

Tom

Thanks for the heads up, Tom. I'll check it.

ETA, yes that file's damaged. I'll replace it!

OK, I've replaced the damaged file. Let me know if anything else needs fixing.
