The top two pics are, I think Staurastrum (hirsutum?). Flat on and end on.

The third, I'd like some suggestions. There seems a a hint of flagella.

The samples were collected from an acidic pond at Sandgate, near Storrington in West Sussex, UK a couple of weekends ago. My usual locations tend to have neutral to alkaline water. I'll post a picture in Favorite Locations.

All pictures:

Zeiss Standard GFL Microscope

Substage: Leitz ICT (DIC)
Camera: Canon Powershot S50

Though we lean upon the same balustrade, the colours of the mountain are different.

So, the first two are of the same subject but different views  very interesting subjects and pictures (going to look up the name now  )

or S. teliferum. Length of spikes indicate teliferum.

Species of third picture!? Did you see vibrating flagellae? And could you get a little closer?

Kind regards, Wolfgang

Unfortunately cannot provide any closer shots until I get a new sample. The individuals were stationary and hints of flagella only noticeable in (flash) picture.
