First go at photomicrography - water flea

Post by madweasel »

Hi all, I've been a long-time macro shooter, but have just started with a new compound microscope and have been trying to find ways of photographing what I see, mainly pond life. Here I've got a water flea. Sadly it died before I shot the picture, so it's not in very good condition, but I'm fairly pleased with the sharpness of the shot.

So far I'm projecting with a visual eyepiece. I'll probably need to get a photographic eyepiece to improve the quality.

Mark, this looks really good. Great sharpness and contrast. How are you coupling the camera to the eyepiece? I assume you're using a lens on your camera.

Thanks, I improved both a bit in processing. I tried a few different methods to start with, including using a macro lens up to the eyepiece, but in the end I found I could project straight into the camera body with the eyepiece. I used an adapter tube to cut out extraneous light. It's not an expensive set-up and I'm only just beginning, so I was pleased with the result.
