Tree of Floscularia

Post by Charles Krebs »

My recent collecting trip turned up some floating leaves that had many Floscularia attached to the lower surface. Unlike the solitary tubes that I usually find, these has built their tubes attached to each other. Reminded me of big saguaro cacti or trees.

These are oblique brightfield with 4X and 10X objectives.

Jacek,
Charles where they can be found?
I am fortunate in that these seem to be pretty common in the two ponds I sample most. Both are "still" water with no flow.
They are usually found on the lower part of floating leaves of live vegetation, or on grass blades right at the edge of the pond.
