This high magnification shot is of encrusted metuloid pleurocystidia, which are specialized cells on the gill surface of certain mushrooms in the Genus Inocybe. The crystals are calcium oxalate and the "nodulose" spores are 8-10 microns in diameter. Leitz 63X/1.40 PL APO objective with 1st Generation Zeiss DIC on a Zeiss Universal.

very interesting shot
just a quastion: in your pic i can see some blue chromatism around samples,
may it be a defect of your objective ?
best
Arturo
Thanks Arturo,
Yes, this is slight chromatic aberration which is most apparent with DIC at high magnification. It may be due to the fact that my projection eyepiece is a Zeiss and the objective is Leitz. The objective is a high quality Leitz objective in fine condition, but the Zeiss eyepiece corrections might not be matching.
I have been unable to find a suitable Leitz projection/photo eyepiece.

Arturo,
To be honest I don't remember in that case. But I do typically see some CA by eye when using my hybrid DIC setup. I doesn't bother me much when working with my fungi, but it's not the DIC perfection I see posted here sometimes.
