Usually these little guys, like this one, are a bright yellow or least they have been until now. The temperatures have been quite warm here recently until this weekend when they dropped about 15° F. from where they have been the past week or so. Just winters way of saying, "hey, I am not gone just yet." Anyway the warmer temps of the last week may have had something to do with the color change. The bright yellow was noted back when the temperatures were still in the 40's and lower 50's and the nights were in the 20's and mid 30's. :-k

If you look a the first image quite closely, you will note that just behind the legs and up close to the bottom of the abdomen, the springboard or furcula of this little critter can be clearly seen. These particular Springtails will put up with a lot of pestering, I have yet to make one jump into the air. The second image, up close and personal, was taken to get a good look at those eyes, beautiful aren't they? Poor little thing, it has the face of an unshaven old man, which reminds me :-k , I have not shaved all weekend. By the way, that long thing sticking out front is a piece of frost bitten and dead moss.

You've done a good job with these pics Ken - very interesting.

Hmmm...made me realise that I've not had anything "live" under the Meiji (well nothing animate anyway) as yet. Your on-the-button "unshaven old man" observation raised a  too.

Yes...well yours is much better groomed than mine. I have never been able to grow a beard, I wish sometimes that I could. I could possibly manage a goatee I think and have entertained the thought but...

Well hey, thanks Bruce. Things should be beginning to crawl about soon as we swing southward with the globe. :-k
