mosquito larvae in seawater?

Post by Franz Neidl »

Yesterday I saw this larva in seawater (in the benthos) and I have two questions:
1. Is this a larva from the culicidae (culex?). The larva was ca. 1 mm long.
2. Can larvae from the Culicidae be living in seawater? Up to now I thougt they dont like sea water.
Maybe somebody can help me?

Franz,

This looks like a midge larva.

There are marine species. (Clunioninae family for example)

Midge larva

I agree with Charlie. The "feet" look very much like a specimen I shot of a midge larva.
