Post by RogelioMoreno »

Here two stacked images of Micrasterias that I found recently, the other some kind of alga looks very nice with polarized light.

Edit: Thank you to Franz for the id of the Spirogyra sp.

Beautiful specimens and great pictures. I hope that this year we'll see a Micrasterias

Hi Rogelio, beautiful pictures. What sort of lambda plate do you use? (lambda/4? maybe?)

Thank you all for your comments.

Stefano, on the second picture I used a lambda plate (full wave retardation). My DIC polarizer has a lambda/4 on top of the linear polarizer (Senarmont kind, this is the kind used by Nikon on its DIC system to change contrast). For my polarized pictures I used my Senarmont DIC polarizer and if I want to change the background color then I put the lambda (full wave) plate into the light train.
