Butterfly scales under fluorescent excitation

Post by pwnell »

I was surprised to see the colours (except for the green) to mimic the actual colours of the scales. Red is now orange and black stays black. Cannot recall what butterfly this was - it was from the Papilionidae genus.

Is this autofluorescence? What kind of excitation light you used?
Love the colors!

Yep, autofluorescence. I used a 330 - 480nm excitation source.
