Gonium pectorale. Trachelomonas.

Post by Charles Krebs »

I put a fiber optic light guide against a container holding a pond sample. It did not take long at all before there was a dense gathering of trachelomonas and a couple of other critters that move toward the light source. A drop or two of water contained hundreds of them.

Both are single shots with the 100/1.40 S Plan Apo (210X on Canon 50D sensor). DIC with electronic flash.

I really like the cross-section of the Trachelomonas. Its very difficult to find them in a useful orientation like that. Excellent shot.
