Dark Nereis

Post by Wim van Egmond »

A dark field close up of the Ragworm Nereis showing the jaws that now lay in side the body byt they can be extended. Polychaetes have all types of mouthparts. I have also seen vacuum cleaner types of extendable mouthparts

Oh, that's where the jaws are!

Thanks for these pictures, Wim. I had completely misinterpreted the part about jaws in your earlier posting -- I was thinking that the jaws were at the very bottom of the picture, sort of like spider fangs.

I didn`t think they were inside the worm also. Wait, I have to eat my Hamberger (as my teeth slowly come out of my stomach) Excellent Darkfield Wim.
