Ridged Arcella test in stereo

Post by NikonUser »

Found this amoeba test in my winter aquarium, small tank in an unheated garage kept from freezing with a 60w incandescent light bulb.
This is the 1st I recall seeing with ridges, possibly Arcella dentata; diam: 118µ
Permanent mount in Canada Balsam which seems to have shrunk and cracked and very slightly deformed the test.

Olympus BHS with 40x Splan Apo + 2.5x relay eyepiece, D600, flash, Zerene Stack stereo.

Quote – Holmes on ‘Entomology’
” I suppose you are an entomologist ? “
” Not quite so ambitious as that, sir. I should like to put my eyes on the individual entitled to that name.
No man can be truly called an entomologist,
sir; the subject is too vast for any single human intelligence to grasp.”
