This is not the most spectacular image I made of this subject but I post it to discuss what to do with a subject that is not that that easy for stacking. The trouble with this diatom is that when you stack it it becomes flat and the 3d structure that makes this diatom look like a radioactivity sign is lost.

What I did was make a complete stack and one that stopped halfway. When you make a 50% transparent layer of the full stack on top of the half stack you get this. It is just a quick sketch, I think it can be improved.

Nice!! Very clever use of stacking a difficult subject. That's a big one, we see them more often down to about 20um diameter.
