Almost all my previous images were taken with my very simple invention that I called the Universal Filter (or Universal Gradient Filter/UFG). I have been waiting for a possibility to compare it with DIC because my goal was to make the filter effect as close to DIC as possible.
I finally did the comparison, and here it is:
when it comes to lower magnifications (4/10/20) it works really good (: on higher the filter effect fades and is strongly outperformed by DIC.

Nice comparison!
I will need to make some UGFs. (one of my growing list of to do projects for some time now)
Do you use the same UGF with all objectives?. I ask this because I think that the "gradient zone" of the filter may need to be wider with high NA objectives than with low NA ones, like the condenser diaphragm for brightfield.
PS: congratulations for your new DIC setup. I'm sure you're going to do a good use of it
