An amoeba and Paramecia in phase

Post by phytoplankton »

I decided to try taking some pictures with my microscope. I don't have a proper setup yet so I just put a tripod with a Nikon D60 over a Vario-Orthomat eyepiece on my Orthoplan.

I had a large 3 inch by 2 inch slide with a large 36 x 60 mm cover glass sealed with vaseline that I had let sit for a while. It originally had been a very active bacteria and Paramecium slide. Since the slide was sort of dirty I only used dry objectives.

For the first picture I used the Leitz NPL FL 63/0.90 Phaco 4 lens. This unknown amoeba was deep and hard to get a good pic of, but I was aided somewhat by the correction collar. I also used a deep blue fluorescence filter so there is a narrower wavelength to focus on.

Next these Paramecia were visiting a corner in the vaseline where some bacteria had accumulated. They were very fast. I used the Leitz Achromatic 40/0.65 Phaco 2 lens and same fluorescence filter.
