L. lyra in phase

Post by Frez »

This is my favorite diatom. It's always willing to pose, doesn't talk too much and doesn't eat much on a date.
The image was done with a Nikon 100x Dark Medium phase objective @ 1.25 na on an Olympus BHA.

Thanks
Frez

Hi Marek

I use a Nikon turret condenser with Nikon objectives on an Olympus BHA. It's an older BHA so condensers are interchangeable with the Nikon 'S' series. In fact the Olympus and Nikon plates and annuli from that era are the same size. From what I can tell compatibility ceased when Nikon changed from a 37mm slip in condenser mount to a circular dovetail.

Most of this is all about finding the right specimen. A single valve flat on the slide is best especially for phase.

Thanks!
