One of my favorites from the Dunkirk deposit, Actinoptychus heliopelta. If our ancestors could have seen these, they might have invented a better wheel. The other is a basket to put really small stuff in. :idea:

Its good to see your new posts and whimsical commentary. I wasn't a member when you were posting before but I've seen your photos when I searched the archives. You do great work. Any chance we'll see anoptral phase again?

Thanks Curt. Unfortunately the Reichert 40A phase objective has been misplaced. It'll turn up sooner or later and we'll fire it up. Right now I'm kinda stuck on DF. Somebody turn the lights on! :wink:

The first is a great picture of one of my all time favourite diatoms. I love that little 'fairy's thimble' too. It's a pleasure to have a little diatom 'Festschrift'. :)
I've now added my own Actinoptychus image of a slightly damaged specimen that allows us to peek inside a little.
