mosquitoo larva labral brush

Post by NikonUser »

Litonotus posted some very nice images of the labral brushes of a mosquito larva that showed the comb-like endings of the setae

Just as an ad-on, below is a close-up of one of the setae.
Nikon 60x oil + 2.5x relay lens on an Olympus BHS. I mounted one complete brush which gave far too much depth for the 60x objective. I selected one detached seta but it was not flat and thus the just acceptable image.

Quote – Holmes on ‘Entomology’
” I suppose you are an entomologist ? “
” Not quite so ambitious as that, sir. I should like to put my eyes on the individual entitled to that name.
No man can be truly called an entomologist,
sir; the subject is too vast for any single human intelligence to grasp.”
Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr
The Poet at the Breakfast Table.
