Have you compared against images that have been compressed less? With these images, there should be no visible difference between 300KB and anything larger.

Very nice images! I am not sure if less compression will be a big difference. Although in the third image the diatom has suffered from compression, of the coverslip.

Thank you all, I had to reduce the image size to a maximum of 1024 pixels, picture 1, 3, 5 and 6 are in the original of larger sized
