Claw

Post by Wim van Egmond »

From last year, a copepod I found between red algae. It's rather thick and not very transparent so in order it make it a bit more than a black blob I used polarised filters. It is still a bit dark.

It has this big claw it uses to avoid becoming a plankton organism, enabling it to cling to the red algae.

I wonder if anyone knows wich species it is.

Can't help with the ID Wim, but that third images is beautiful. I think I would print it and hang it on a wall. :)

Thanks! I hope to find an ID. I will look into it.

Rogelio. I think you were commenting on my images at the same moment I was commenting on yours. Synchronicity. :)

Could you see the claw actually working? Was he using it for something?

The claw was used to hold on to the red alga. You can see it in the bottom image.
