Working on old images.

Scaridium longicaudum. Apparently the red spot is not an eye.

Wim,
very nice shot! You are right about the red spot: according to Koste, Rotatoria, the epipharynx and parts of the mastax are red.

Thank you Ernst. I wonder if the pigment is obtained from the food. It seems to feed on algae with a yellow/orange pigment. Just a wild guess. :)

That's a really nice DIC image! I was observing these organisms today. I took some movies but their file sizes are too large to upload here..
