Hypotrichia: Oxytricha ?

Post by pjoris »

I assume this is some species of Hypotrichia (size approx 200 micrometer). Even with the guide from Patterson and the paper from Foissner and Berger, it still is very difficult for me to to identify them further. It might be Holosticha (or not, of course). Anybody with a more definite id (and tips for the id) ?

Joris

I looked a bit further, and I assume it might be an Oxytricha, possibly O. bifaria ("with slightly pointed rear end" from "How to know the protozoa" Jahn et. al). Other opinions still wellcome. Joris

To me, it looks more like a uroleptid...in particular, Paruroleptus musculus. However, it can be very difficult to identify hypotrichs & stichotrichs to genus level without counting kineties and macronuclei, analyzing the distribution of cirri, etc.

Ah, interesting suggestion. I'm seeing in the books the options and what I should be seeing to separate them. Now only find the characteristics in real live. The pictures don't show the position of the ventral cirri - so I wil leave it at unidentified for now ... Joris
