Buse Lake is a shallow(3-6 metres) alkaline pond..pH 12. Every 10 years or so it becomes totally oxygen depleted. The water becomes port wine colored and the area has a very strong smell of H2S. Very small suctorians were fairly common with trapped ciliates
unknown suctorians 40X 100X objectives

re Suctorians
Good Morning Charles
Most of these little beasts had captured multiple small ciliates. I find that the numbers of the circular suctorians was much highter than in any other samples that I had examined. They were all very small comparatively speaking. They also out numbered the oblong ones (first suctorian posting) by an easy 100 to 1. The samples also contained at least three types of ciliates (which I will post later) some cyanobacteria and the occasional Euglena...so much life in zero O2 and ph of 12
Thanks for looking and commenting
