Eyes of a Water Strider - Gerris remigis

Image 2 - Leitz 4x Plan Fluorite, 32 images at .002 inch increments

I thought I would try my hand at a bug eye, often done so well by my fellow forum members. Not an easy subject. These eyes, of an insect that sits on the water surface supported by surface tension, can see above and below the water at the same time.

Leitz Ortholux microscope
4X Leitz projection eyepiece plus 1/3x relay lens
Canon 50D
Zerene PMax stacking.
Processing in Photoshop.

I don't know how this slipped by me. Water striders have always held a fascination for me. They are easily tamed in the sense you can get very close to them and they won't run off.

Very nice images of the eyes, which are hard to see in the wild. :)
