a tintinnid ciliate with an elegant house

Post by Franz Neidl »

This tintinnide ciliate is a real artist: it constructed an elegant house (=lorica) - 75 µm high - in wich he can retire when ennemies (or people with a microscope) come.
2 pictures, objective 40x, DIC, marine plankton.
Somebody knows the species?

Franz

Hi Franz,

A very elegant little house!

I have never seen this tintinnid myself, but I believe that it is Proplectella claparedei.

Thank you for another wonderful post.

with my best wishes,

Brian
